TV gardener scoops prize at Tatton show

The crowds had been told about the tropical delights to be seen at this years Royal Horticultural Society flower extravaganza at Tatton, but it was an English garden that stole the show.

TV gardener Chris Beardshaw won the coveted Best Garden award, after being commissioned to create the Cheshire garden, despite rarely having spent time in the area, he admitted.

"I was surprised to be asked to do the Cheshire garden because Ive never spent much time up here before," the BBC star said.

"A lot of people think the best gardens are in the south west – but this is where gardeners should really be heading for inspiration."

The Tatton flower show is a landmark event on any keen gardeners calendar, and runs for five days in late July, attracting international attention.

This year was billed to be the year tropical came to Tatton, but with such high standards coming from the UKs own favourite gardener, the top prize ended up going to a traditional garden.

The flower show at Tatton Park will continue for two more days over the weekend, and is open to the public. This year sees the show celebrate its tenth anniversary at the park."ADNFCR-1495-ID-18702694-ADNFCR"
