Greenhouse rebuilt after arson attack

An allotment in Sheffield has a new greenhouse in place following an £8,000 arson attack, the citys newspaper reports.

The Star notes that an existing greenhouse on the site was destroyed in the attack in January.

During the blaze, the therapeutic SAGE Greenfingers project on Grimesthorpe Road also lost its shed and tools.

But donations have helped to rebuild the site – complete with a new greenhouse for use by local children.

Project Manager John Lawson tells The Star: "We will be so relieved to get the project up and running again after this arson attack.

"Group members are really looking forward to getting on with spring growing activities in the new greenhouse."

The attack could prove a blessing in disguise, in light of advice from the Royal Horticultural Society.

According to the organisation, large particles in ash can help to improve soil structure, while minerals in burnt matter can help provide nutrients to plants."ADNFCR-1495-ID-18545718-ADNFCR"
